Judi grew up in dogs, working as a young girl for the family's veterinarian and grooming shop. Her mother bred Longhaired and Smooth Dachshunds, breeding a BIS Longhaired Dachshund and a number of Smooth Dachshund Champions. Thanks to the early teachings of her mother, Judi learned that taking care of dogs is a privilege to be earned and respected.
Judi worked for five years as an Apprentice Handler to Jimmy Andrews, a well-known poodle specialtist in the 1960's, She concurrently owned and operated grooming shops and boarding kennels in Houston and Beaumont, Texas. At the age of 21, Judi applied for and was accepted as an AKC Licensed Handler, approved for 5 of the then 6 groups before AKC suspended its licensing program for Professional Handlers.
In 1971, Judi applied for and was accepted as a member of the highly respected Professional Handlers Association and has served as both Zone Governor and a member of its Board of Directors.
Past club affiliations include the Houston Kennel Club, the Poodle Club in Houston, Texas, Min. Schnauzer Club of America. She orchestrated numerous educational seminars and events as a member of these clubs and assisted in re-writing the Min., Schnauzer Standard for the Min. Schnauzer club of America. Judi chaired the first known PRA clinic in the US and the first known Meet the Breeds for pubic education, successfully working with a group of breed clubs in the Houston area.
Present club affiliations include the Bluebonnet Norwich and Norfolk Terrier Club, the Northern California Norwich and Norfolk Terrier Club, The Norwich and Norfolk Terrier Club of Greater Chicago and The Norwich and Norfolk Terrier Club. She presently serves as Vice-President and Webmaster for BNNTC. She is also assisting NNTC in the development of the Illustrated Standard for Judges Education and has presented Parent Club approved Judges Education Seminars.
Judi's first love was poodles, and though she bred all three varieties, her primary variety was Toys. She bred several Min. Poodle champions, a number of Standard and Toy Poodle champions. Her Toy Poodle, Ch. Bonanza Samore Bomber was BOV at Westminster KC at the age of 9 years, and a grandson of her top winning Standard Poodle was BIS at Westminster with handler Robert Peebles.
As of 2008, Judi's dog career has spanned 45 years, and in addition to Poodles, she has bred Afghan Hounds, Whippets, Shih Tzu, Min. Schnauzers, and Norfolk Terriers, breeding champions in each of those breeds. Additionallyk, she has owned a Scottie, Norwich Terrier and Sealyham Terrier, all champions.
She feels blessed that she has been able to participate in the sport of dogs as an owner, breeder, owner-handler and Professional Handler.
